A member asked:

My mom has a thumb nail that has a large indent at the base. what can this be?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Spooning of nail: This is a clinical sign of iron deficiency anemia. She should probably see a doctor and have blood work to see how her iron and blood counts are and also be evaluated for causes of blood loss by a colonoscopy, an endoscopy and regular gynecological examination as well.
