Can not: Oesophageal varices are enlarged submucosal veins that develop secondary to portal vein hypertension. Operations to decompress the portal vein system into the vena cava or the left renal vein have been developed as well as interrupting the varices from the portal system. Consult hepatologist and portal surgeon.Liver transplant can eliminate portal hypertension.
