Effective treatment: Lasik has been through millions of satisfied patients and the technique currently is terrific. At 18 you would not be eligible as your natural power will continue to change over the next 5 or so years. 23 is the usual breakpoint in most regions. The risks are minimal but include not quite enough power and eyedryness. Discuss this with your ophthalmologist.

There are risks: Risks of lasik include infection, undercorrection, overcorrection, various visual symptoms after surgery, loss of flap, night vision disturbances. These risks are real but low in frequency. 92% of patients are very pleased witrh their lasik surgery. Lasik is elective and you have to weigh the risks vs. Benefits (decreasing your need for glasses.).
