Has it always been: This way? Your period, or menstruation, is your body's way of getting rid of the lining on your uterus. Every month it regrows, in order to be properly prepared to support a pregnancy, should you desire. The lining is made up of cells, and there is blood loss when the lining "falls" off, which explains the passing of small clots from your vagina. However, please see your doctor if this is new.
