Stop sore throat: Unfortunately, you cant. Once a virus (if viral) or a bacteria sets into the tissues, the disease will progress to resolution in most cases. This may be 10 to 14 days. For symptomatic relief, stop smoking, use soothing throat lozenges, inhale moist mentholated steam vapor, drink plenty of fluids, and rest. Some otc meds do have decongestants which may be helpful, but can thicken secretions.

Can't stop, Can v sx: For significant sore throat with swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician & get a strep throat test/ culture. If you have strep throat, antibiotic therapy is imperative to prevent future complications. Consider tylenol (acetaminophen) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications. Saltwater gargles: mix 1 tsp salt in 8 oz warm water – gargle several times a day. Or gargle with aloe vera juice twice a day.
