More serotonin: Ssris increase the amount of serotonin in the synapes between the neurons in your brain. This increase in serotonin helps depressive symptoms, showing an effect in 2-3 weeks, 4-6 weeks for full effect. Short term side effects include mild nausea and headaches for a few days to a week, while more long term side effects include increased appetite and decreased libido and delayed ejaculation for men.
