Makes good sense: Numbers estimate when events might have happened. Life is not exact, which means december 2 and 6 are the "same date" because they are close together. Also, "ovulating late" means later than usual (so, what is your usual?). Some women ovulate on cycle day 14, but others have their usual normal ovulation day sooner or later than day 14.

Nothing is 100%: Most women ovulate 14 days before the first day of their period. However, every woman is different. Also, conception may occur a day or so after ovulation. Also, dates by ultrasound are accurate +/- 8%, so there is some variability with that date as well.
