What does "9" mean??: In the us, alcohol levels are given in milligrams of alcohol per 100 cc of blood (mg per cent). It is sometimes given in grams per liter, which is essentially the same thing, and occasionally by mg per liter, which is 10 times higher than the mg% number. Legal intoxication is 80 mg per cent (0.08), unconsciousness common at 300 mg per cent (0.300), and death at that level or higher is possible.
