Need examination: Your mother has to see her doctor, symptoms may be due to unhealed tissue, fragment of bone, or neuroma ( scar tissue of nerve ) some times even feel phantom pains as if still have toe.

Phantom pain: Is a possibility but it could be from nerve reaction to amputation site. Is the wound healed? If not then that is the priority especially with diabetics.

I had my great toe amputated due to osteomyleitis on 9-9-20. My second toe has become a hammer toe. My diabetes is well controlled with an A1C of 5.6 for the past 6 months. I wear a toe splint every day which helps greatly. Is there a simple fix?
