No damage.: Zoloft is an antidepressant of the ssri family. Antidepressants do not work as rapidly as the antianxiety medications like Ativan or xanax (alprazolam) . Iot takes 2-4 weeks on the right dose for it to work and it usually alleviates the anxiety that often accompanies depression. The half life of these medications when taken once is less than 72 hours.
