What is the mers virus, and what causes it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Coronavirus: MERS is a coronavirus infection first described in 2012 in saudi arabia. It is a serious viral infection that is in some ways similar to SARS. It causes pneumonia and other serious health issues and has a fatality rate of about 60%. To my knowledge no cases have been diagnosed in the U.S. The source of the infection is not yet pinpointed.
