Time for consultatn: The first sign of male pubertal change is enlargement of the testis.It changes from peanut to small olive and then larger olive. A exam with your pediatrician or pcp would be a first step and an x-ray of the hand would be informative. Puberty tracks well with bone maturity and if his bone age a year or so behind this is less worrisome. Referral to a pediatric endocrinologist may be needed.

Agree: The voice doesn't change until well into puberty, not at the beginning. If he has hair around his genitals that he did not have before, it's likely he *has* hit puberty.
