Cracking Back: The urge to crack your back is not abnormal. The altered mechanics of the small facet joints of the lower back can cause fluid to become trapped in small pockets which are uncomfortable. Twisting and bending can cause a cracking sound which is the redistribution of fluid in the joint capsule and leads to decreased discomfort.
