Sure, they're great!: Beans (legumes) are considered both a vegetable & a protein, & appear twice on the USDA Food Guide Pyramid. Beans have a low calorie count but pack a high fiber content. They help lower cholesterol, & are high in antioxidants, protein, B vitamins, iron, magnesium, potassium, copper, zinc. When eaten regularly they can promote a healthy heart & the phytochemicals in beans may reduce some cancers.
