What happens if you start your birth control in the middle of your cycle?

Dr. Adam Levy answered

Pill Failure, Spot: Starting the pill mid-cycle or anytime in the cycle has become more common. This may lead to a pill "failure" ie pregnancy, if backup method is not used, and/or additional bleeding called "breakthrough" bleeding during the packet. It is always advised to use condoms for the first 7-10 days of the pill, especially in this case. Otherwise, it is not harmful and allows you to start pill immediately.
