Not always: One interesting thing is that you can have a minor injury one day and not feel significant pain in the shoulder until a few weeks later. In this case the patient may report pain and stiffness. A simple physical exam in the office may lead to a diagnosis of a frozen shoulder (posttraumatic adhesive capsulitis). The inflammation caused by injury makes scar that makes the shoulder stiff and painful.
