Ovary cyst: Your period stops as a result of increasing estrogen levels as the next cycle develops. The increasing estrogen is being produced by the ovaries. One of the ovaries will have a cyst that is beginning to enlarge - that could be the source of your cramps.

Many thngs: It could be pain from ovulation (mittleschmirtz), but many other things can cause pain. Bowel spasms or bladder spasms could feel the same. It us very hard to define where the pain is coming from by the patient. An evaluation by a physician is a good idea.

Lining breaking down: the lining of your uterus starts to break down and actually you may be bleeding a little, but not enought to make it to your pad. I will often examine a woman and have to clean the cervix as there is bleeding, but she wil say she hasn't seen any blood yet. Ibuprofen etc can help.

Pregnant?: Pregnancy is always a possibility. Purchase and perform a home pregnancy test. They usually become positive when you're about a week late. If it's negative, repeat it in 1 week and see your doctor.

Normal variation: You can expect your periods to be less predictable as you get older and approach menopause (average age 51). It sounds like your period will be coming soon but if it doesn't be patient. Home pregnancy tests are readily available and accurate if you are anxious.
