If one is having her regular normal period at the expected time, then she won't get pregnant during the first few days of her period because ovulation is much later. If she has sex near the end of a long long period, and she happens to ovulate early that cycle, and is carrying some rugged sperm that were able to survive a few days... The unexpected might happen.
