Menstrual age vs ...: Gestational age. You need to know what someone means by 12 weeks pregnant - menstrual age or gestational age. Before ultrasound, everything was based on number of weeks since the first day of the last menses. That is the menstrual age of the pregnancy. Most women become pregnant 2 weeks after their last menses, which is the gestational age, or the actual time (weeks) since conception.
