Protective Mechanism: When our bodies sustain an injury, the response is inflammation (red, hot, tender swelling). This is the body increasing the blood flow and the veins expand to carry bad stuff away. As healing occurs, there is leakage of proteins and stuff which combine to form a scab. This is one way the wound is protected. Trauma by picking it may worsen the area. Let it alone to heal by itself.
