I'm 12 weeks pregnant and i've been tormented by a throat soreness that never goes away. it gets worse, then better, but it's always there. could this be acid reflux? i have no other symptoms of reflux.

Think Thyroid: A sore throat is usually benign, but some women can develop problems with their thyroid when pregnant, which can manifest as a persistent sore throat. Go get your thyroid checked right away as this can problematic for your pregnancy.

Yes.: Especially in pregnant females. Gastroesophageal reflux, especially at night, can significantly irritate the vocal cords! talk to your doctor!

Yes: This is seen commonly during pregnancy, so avoid tight fitting clothes, coffee, chocolate, fried and spicy foods.

Yes: If you are otherwise healthy (and pregnancy does not necessarily lend itself to greater risk for illness); the leading causes for chronic (>2 weeks) sore throat are acid reflux and allergic rhinitis. To differentiate, try using zantac otc twice daily over a two week span. If this substantially alleviates your symptoms, you have your answer. If not, try Benadryl (diphenhydramine) at bedtime and see if that helps.
