After missed period: It is better to wait 4-5 days after a missed period to do the test; use first morning urine and follow the instructions carefully. The test may be positive sooner, but a negative test at an earlier date does not rule out pregnancy. You may get a blood test one day after the missed period.

Timing: Implantation bleed is very uncommon, brief and light. It also often will not be when your period is due. Menstrual bleeding will be more like a normal period, and at the usual time for it. Home pregnancy test can also help clarify answer.

Spotting?: Wait. A positive pregnancy test can tell a woman that prior SPOTTING was actually implantation spotting. It can be hard to tell if a woman is pregnant because some symptoms seen in early pregnancy can also happen in non-pregnant women. If there is vaginal bleeding that looks like a menstrual period, then it is a menstrual period (if it quacks like a duck, it's a duck) rather than implantation.
