Possible,not typical: Estrogen is the usual hormonal cause of leg cramps, but there can be other nonhormonal causes as well. Estrogen is not present in depoprovera as it is a progesterone-only method. Leg cramps are listed in the pdr as an infrequent side effect of depoprovera, but in the experience of most gynecologists their patients on depoprovera rarely have that complaint.
