Is entertainment a basic human necessity like sleep?

No: It implies watching action rather than performing one's own action.

Not biologically: But the arts and sports are in every culture indicating a basic cultural or psychological need. Entertainment can be very active as well, whether you are you are the performer or in an active audience. The active/passive dichotomy does not always apply. We needs these cultural events to be enlightened, uplifted, and sometimes to help deal with boredom.Saying: an idle mind is the devil's playground.
