A member asked:

If a person is g6pd but has never had symptoms, how and when would she know she is getting g6pd symptoms (when to go to the doctor)?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yellow skin: Yellow skin and eyes (jaundice), dark urine, feeling tired, shortness of breath. Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (g6pd) deficiency is caused by a mutation on the x chromosome, so men (who have only one x) are more likely than women (who have two x chromosomes) to have symptoms, which may be triggered by an infection or by a medicine. Be sure to tell every one of your doctors that you have g6pd.
