No: Keratotomy means incision into the cornea. The most common form is lasik or prk, in which a laser enters the cornea and reshapes it. Astigmatism can be corrected with astigmatic keratotomy (ak). These are elective procedures and do not need to be performed. Certain conditions of the cornea can be treated with a keratectomy - removal of some or all of the cornea (corneal transplant).
