MRI finding: There are a few different images that are created when using an mri, the most common being t1-, t2-weighted and stir, images. I'm assuming you're looking at the t2 image showing "white" or enhanced signal behind the knee cap represents fluid, not scar tissue. Extra fluid in the knee represents that there is likely pathology within the knee joint itself. It could be one of several pathologies.
