Absolutely: Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (jia), previously commonly known as jra, can start in children of any age including teens. If you know a teen with joint swelling for more than a few days, have them see their regular doctor right away. At that point, if the joint swelling or morning stiffness continues, ask for a referral to see a pediatric rheumatologist. Joint pain alone is not arthritis in teens.
