Biopsy: There are several screening procedures that are available such as a brush biopsy, velscope examination and visilite. If any of these are positive, then a biopsy which involves removing a small piece of tissue is required. The tissue is examined under a microscope by a specialist who can make the diagnosis.

Biopsy: The only way to get a definitive answer is by doing a biopsy. This means that the doctor takes a piece of the suspected cancer and has it analyzed by another doctor, called a pathologist. Sometimes the biopsy can be done in the office with a little local anesthetic, and sometimes it needs to be done in the operating room. After that, the doctor may order other tests, such as ct scans.
