Low vitamin D!: Low vitamin d is associated with metabolic syndrome, or the cluster of sx caused by Insulin resistance, which includes torso obesity. Low vitamin corrected to low normal levels is all that is needed. Current research suggests that if you achieve a level of 25-oh d of 40ng/ml, no additional benefits occur. Vitamin d deficiency: Vitamin deficiencies are fairly common in our population, but aren't regularly measured. It is partly related to our dietary habits, and a diet in high fat, high calorie food is not necessarily nutritionally balanced. The other, specifically for vitamin d, is related to sun exposure, and many of the morbidly obese are not very physically active and engage in regular outside activities.
