Viral or bacterial: Viral bronchitis is characterized by coughing some clear mucus and will usually last less than a week. Antibiotics are ineffective and not recommended for viral bronchitis. Bacterial bronchitis is productive of yellow or green mucus with a lot of bacteria and will linger for 7-14 days if left untreated with a lot of fatigue.
