For what reasons was my random blood sugar high?

I don't know how: High it was, but if it was at least 200, it's likely you have diabetes. If you're overweight, you most likely are Insulin resistant and could have progressed into prediabetes or even full diabetes. Check w/your doctor and begin a program of dietary restriction, exercise and weight loss.

A 27-year-old male asked:

What is the random level for the blood sugar?

Can be anything: Random blood sugars are not very helpful. Two hours or more after a meal it should be less than 130-140. A glucose above 200 at any time suggests diabetes. It is common to have glucoses as low as the mid 60's and be totally normal if you're healthy. Get a post meal or fasting with a hga1c if you're really concerned.

Many possible: Reasons. Since i don't know what you mean by high, i'm going to assume that you're eating too much food or not taking an appropriate dose of medication. This needs to be discussed w/your doctor.

It depends: There are varying degrees of high blood sugar. When it is moderately high, you may feel fine other than some weakness etc and more frequent urination. If it is very high it can lead to a condition called diabetic ketoacidosis where can cause dehydration, kidney failure and death if not treated in a timely manner.

Your doctor can help: You need medical attention in case your blood sugar is high as it requires treatment to control the high sugar. If you are not known to be a diabetic, you will need to start treatment for it. In case you already have diabetes, then you know the answers as to how to seek medical help and get medication to control the sugar.
