Regular doctor: Your regular doctor is a great place to start. Not all "dark" stools represent blood loss, so your doctor will help determine whether you need to see a specialist, such as a gastroenterologist or a surgeon.

Regular doctor: Dark stools can sometimes be a sign of blood loss, but more commonly are a result of what your eat. Certain medications can also make your stool very dark.
