Risk of cholera: The major vehicle for spreading cholera is contaminated water and food. Infection by person-to-person contact is uncommon. People with low gastric acidity, associated with malnutrition, are more easily infected than those with normal acidity. Cholera is endemic to, and often epidemic in, the indian subcontinent, asia, south america. Also, watch out for asymptomatic cholera carriers.

Most people who: become infected with Cholera are asymptomatic. About 5 to 10% of people have severe infection. Very young children, very old people, people who are malnourished or immuno-suppressed are more likely to have severe effects from infection.
