I had a chemical pregnancy last month when i had my periods on 3 may although very light. this month i don't think i have ovulated. is this normal?

Possibly: If your cycle was very light with a biochemical pregnancy i would consider speaking to my doctor and having another pregnancy test performed to make sure that the test is completely negative. At times it is not unusual to have an abnormal cycle subsequent to a biochemical pregnancy cycle.

Yes: After a miscarriage it can take a month or longer to return to ovulation--if you were truly pregnant. If you were never pregnant, the light period and anovulation may be indicative of a hormonal problem and this should be evaluated.
