Depends on treatment: Cutaneous anthrax- 5-20% fatality if untreated; < 1% with antibiotics; inhalation anthrax-99% fatal if untreated; 45-80% fatal in pts with severe symptoms even if treated.

Anthrax Death Rates: Anthrax is a serious disease, but early recognition and treatment is the key. The skin form is the least ominous, with cure rates at 80%. The lung form has a 25% success rate, and the GI form is successfully treated in about half of the cases.

GI Anthrax: Agree with dr. Majeroni. Additionally the fatality rate for gastrointestinal anthrax is between 25 to 60%.
