Probably: Doubling of vision, which does not go away, can be from changes in the nerve supply to the eye muscles due to vascular, infectious or tumorous lesions. It can also be from trauma or breakdown of previous fusion. See your ophthalmologist for persistent doubling as soon as you can arrange it. Meanwhile you might have to patch one eye to function.

Yes: Double vision that does not go away always needs to be evaluated. Occasionally, people with normal vision who get very tired can experience double vision. It usually goes away once you wake up. See an eye doctor or neurologist immediately if it does not resolve after rest.
