Maybe blood draw: Depends on how high the blood count and whether or not symptoms are present. Also, if pcv is caused by something (secondary polycythemia), that cause needs to be addressed. Smoking, sleep apnea, hemochromatosis are common causes of secondary pcv. If primary and symptoms exist the main treatment is phlebotomy - drawing blood off regularly to decrease the hemoglobin.

Lower blood, aspirin: The goal in polycythemia vera is to lower the red blood blood levels so as to prevent complications such as strokes and clots. The diagnosis has to be confirmed first and a schedule of blood removals to the target range is set up; Aspirin is also started and some patients may need a medicine call Hydrea (hydroxyurea) to lower blood counts.
