A member asked:

Do medications for high blood pressure carry a known risk of weight gain? if so, which do not?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Fluid retention: None of the common antihypertensives is associated with significant weight gain. However, even placebo causes weight gain. So, a certain percentage of people who take antihypertensives will gain weight and think it is due to medication. Calcium channel blockers (amlodipine, nifedipine, etc) as a group may cause peripheral edema / mild weight gain but this is simply fluid, easily dealt with.
