CONTUSION ANKLE: Your daughter suffered contusion of the ankle. Put ice during the first day, wrap it with ace bandage and give analgesic like motrin. If the pain and swelling do not disappear, do an x-ray to rule out dislocation or fracture. If negative for either continue ace and start with warm compress. Your md should help you out.

Ice, ice, ice: Start first with resting, staying off it completely. Wrap it with compressive wraps like an ace bandage, use lots of cold compresses or ice. Depending on her age, try antiinflammatory meds. If pain continues, make an appointment with your doctor for referral to a specialist. She may need x-rays and an off-loading boot or more. I hope this helps!

RICE: There has been an injury to the area. The usual applies, using the acronym rice: r-rest, i-ice, c-compression, e-elevation. You follow this for the duration of significant pain, and can also use NSAID such as Ibuprofen on Naproxen to relieve pain and inflammation as well.
