The 4th day of ...: Your cycle is not typically a fertile time but not all bleeding is a "period". Bleeding does not prevent pregnancy either. It just so happens that with regular 28 day ovulatory cycles the bleeding starts a couple of weeks before the fertile time of the month. Birth control that is correctly used is better than a calendar.
