A member asked:

What chemicals are in birth control that stops you from getting pregnant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Estrogens/progestin: There are 2 types of hormonal contraceptives, one utilizes both estrogen & progestin, others (shots, implantable rod, one iud) use progestin only. Iuds work differently, but the other hormonal contraceptives cause suppression of the body's own production and release of eggs, so there are not eggs to be fertilized.
