A member asked:

Whats the difference between being manic depressed compared to just depressed? is there a difference even?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mania: People that have bipolar depression have to have had the presence of a manic episode at some time. Even though they may primarily may be depressed, the history of mania identifies them as bipolar. With clinical depression, there is just depression (no history of mania). They can sometimes present similarly, but the treatments are different.
