Derm or ID consult?: Depending on certain conditions in which the tatoo was done- in addition to the allergic reaction that was stated by dr. C, if the skin condition smolders, then consider a mycobacterial infection such as m. Fortuitum or m. Chelonae. A stain and culture can be done on the fluid expressed; this can subsequently be treated by excision and/or antibiotic therapy.

Tattoo: It is always possible for someone to develop an allergy to a tattoo ink. Each color ink is made from a specific chemical. Some ink colors are well known to cause an allergic reaction. Also, beacuse of the nature of how a tattoo is applied one must always consider infection. Evaluation by a dermatologist is certainly recommended.
