Should you have your period while on depo-provera provera (medroxyprogesterone)?

No: The majority of patients who continue receiving depoprovera injections every three months stop having periods because the medication causes the lining of the uterus to become thin. After discontinuing depoprovera, patients will resume having menstrual periods.

Yes: Most woman have some sort of periods while on the Depo-Provera provera. After the first injection irregular periods are common. The more Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) injections a woman has the less likely she is to bleed. However some bleeding is to be expected.
