How do prescription medicines for attention deficit disorder work?

A doctor has provided 1 answer
Dr. Ted Saha answered

Mechanism of action.: Stimulant medicine stimulates central nervous system activity; blocks reuptake and increases release of a chemical called norepinephrine and dopamin . Methylphenidate and detroamphatamine/amphetamine group of medicines are the examples of stimulants. Non-stimulant such as strattera (atomoxetine) inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine. Exact mechanism how it works is unknown in all the meds i described.
