Skin burns: Old terminology: 1st degree=tender, reddened skin; 2nd degree: painful redness & blisters; 3rd degree: waxy, white skin with loss of feeling; 4th degree: muscle and bone involvement. Now termed partial thickness and full thickness burns. Severity also depends on amount of skin involved & location: face, hands, genitals more significant than patch on arm & should be treated by doc/er.
