How should you prepare oneself before undergoing radiation therapy?

Good nutrition: Depending on the site being treated there are several side effects. Most common to all sites are fatigue and appetite loss. I recommend a good diet and some light exercise to help combat fatigue and appetite loss.

From a dental standpoint I would recommend besides the usual high fluoride toothpaste consider the use of protective dental appliances (clear retainers) with a baking soda-xylitol gel. They can be worn between meals, at night. A generic gel can be found as ‘retainer gel’ . Ideally all basic dental work is completed prior to impressions for the appliances and comfortable fit ensured by your DDS.
