Yes: Many physicians avoid using the word "asthma" when asthma is the correct diagnosis. Evaluations should include a pulmonary function test. If your pcp does not do this, see an allergist or pulmonologist. Pneumonia should be considered when fever, shortness of breath and chest pains occur, see an urgent care physician to consider a chest x-ray.
