I recently had a medium chemical peel should i have been given any type of pain relief or anaesthetic before hand?

Not always: I rarely provide pain medication before a medium depth chemical peel but will always counsel patients on post treatment care including frequent application of aquaphor, sunscreen, and tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen if necessary. Everybody's pain threshold is very different.
